Do folks realize how conservative it is to lodge an anti-Zionist critique by way of Jewish sources (i.e. sforim)?
It is also a disservice to these sources themselves, pegging with them an inability to change and adapt. That is static Judaism; you might as well traffic with Hasidim.
Honestly the only solid critiques of Zionism I have encountered are rooted in global anti-nation state philosophies, e.g. communism and anarchism. Until we achieve Trotsky’s permanent revolution, the existence of a Jewish nation-state remains a legitimate tactic. Furthermore, I hold the (supposedly) contradictory opinion that one can be an anti-statist Zionist, a holdover from Kaplan and Ahad Ha’am. To put this in more relevant and contemporary terms, one can be a Zionist while hoping/agitating for the end of all nation-states.
